GSSM seeks an experienced professional to manage a broad set of technologies utilized in distance learning and classrooms. Working with Accelerate, GSSM’s virtual engineering program, the Media Specialist plans, installs, maintains and supports technology assets on the GSSM campus as well as participating high schools/universities around the state.
Accelerate is developing the next generation of creative engineers and technical leaders by offering motivated high school students from across South Carolina an innovative and accelerated path toward college engineering degrees. The Media Specialist will work within GSSM and other Accelerate partner schools to implement and support an integrated engineering curriculum that would be taught virtually to high school students throughout South Carolina
Responsibilities include: Plan, deploy and support classroom technologies that advance the program. Provide technical support and assistance to teachers, students, and remote technical staff to ensure that computer/video/audio equipment is ready and available when needed. Help develop and maintain the course management website to include schedules, rosters, course records, and associated reporting. Assist with capture of live classes, and pre-recorded lectures. Develop and conduct training classes for administrators, teachers, and students as needed.
Qualifications include: Five or more years of relevant experience, with significant experience in secondary or higher education strongly desired. Extensive experience with teleconferencing technologies in an educational setting required. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field, Master’s degree preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills required, as well as the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders including students, teachers, administrators and parents.
This is a full-time (12-month) grant-funded State of S.C. position with full benefits available, to include health and retirement. Compensation is competitive based on experience, credentials and unique qualifications.

GSSM is looking for certified law enforcement officers to assist us in improving our security, to include rapid responses to potential threats from armed intruders. We seek an LEO who can also serve as Coordinator of Public Safety to lead a team of officers, including two additional armed officers.
GSSM is a unique and positive learning community with bright and motivated students who apply and are selected from across S.C. to attend. Disciplinary issues seldom arise, so that the role of Public Safety will focus on positively engaging students, visitors and staff.
Qualifications: Candidates must be South Carolina, Class 1 Certified Law Enforcement Officers, with professional law enforcement experience (five years minimum preferred). The successful candidate(s) will be of the highest integrity and looking for an opportunity to work as an integral member of our community, enhancing all aspects of our safety and security. The Public Safety Coordinator will in addition possess leadership and administrative skills suitable to developing an effective security team.

Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)
The Residence Life Coordinator develops and supervises the residential living environment at the Governor’s School, which includes providing a safe, healthy, and fun living experience for approximately 250 high school students. Professionals in this position develop and offer programming focused on the whole person, provide counseling, interpret and enforce community standards, and administer discipline as necessary.
The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is a full-time (10-month) State of South Carolina, live-in position with full benefits. Our next school term begins in August 2013, but position could be filled sooner. A furnished apartment suite (two bedrooms, two baths, living area and office area, balcony, etc.), and meal plan are provided.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a human services related field with comparable experience; master’s degree in student affairs administration, counseling, education, psychology, or related field is preferred. Night work and weekend work are required. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

As part of our PULSE academic outreach initiative, we seek an exceptional individual to teach an Environmental Science course during the 2012-13 academic year. The main objective of the course is to prepare students to pass the College Board Advanced Placement Environmental Science Exam in May 2013.
Applicants should have a Masters degree or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field. A public school teaching certificate is not required. We seek candidates who show enthusiasm for and innovation in teaching with a minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience, or appropriate combination of credentials and experience. This is a part-time contractual adjunct position.

As part of our new Accelerate program, we are seeking an exceptional Mathematics instructor. Applicants should have a master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, in mathematics and a love of teaching. Desired qualifications include a strong content background in mathematics, experience in teaching mathematics at college or advanced high school levels, knowledge and application of technology, an understanding of gifted learners, and enthusiasm for teaching motivated and talented high-school-aged students. Candidates familiar with teaching distance education (virtual) courses, as well as candidates with prior engineering experience, are particularly encouraged to apply. General academic advising, student activity advising, and occasional evening/weekend commitments are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.
