An Exciting New Challenge:
GSSM Welcomes the Class of 2011

Moving Day 2009They hail from backgrounds ranging from some of South Carolina's largest high schools to some of its smallest home school settings, but there's one thing all of GSSM's newest students have in common --- a love for math, science and technology and a desire to tackle the 24/7 learning experience that only GSSM can offer. Fifty-nine new Govies have now taken their place in the GSSM Family, joining a tradition of academic excellence in a close-knit and arguably unique community.

The total GSSM student body represents 34 counties. This year's newest class represents the following 23 counties:

Say It Isn't So! GSSM Why Wait Reunion Postponed Until Summer 2010

We may have been overly ambitious in planning a reunion for this September after hosting the first-ever all-class reunion this time last year. But for those of you who were ready, willing and able to participate on Sept. 11-12, we promise to deliver BIG next summer as we kick off the annual reunions for the 20th, 15th, 10th, and 5th-year graduating class anniversaries. If you're a member of one of those classes, stay tuned for more details to come!

In the meantime, contact Alumni Association president Ben Pleune at ben.pleune@alston.com if you've got ideas for a rocking reunion or other regional reconnect events.

Going Somewhere? New GSSM Web Feature Highlights Student and Alumni Travel

Is your career taking you overseas? Are you all packed for a study abroad program in another country? GSSM Foundation has created GOVIES ABROAD, a blog by alumni and current students who've taken the critical skills they've honed in the small Pee Dee community of Hartsville and applied them to real-life situations and hands-on scientific research opportunities in far off locales ranging from Africa to Russia.

We hope that by sharing your experiences and travels, other Govies will be inspired. Our goal is to help alumni stay connected -- or reconnect -- with those who share GSSM in common.

Want to blog for Govies Abroad? E-mail Devon Copeland at devon@scgssm.org for more information.
