Business of Medicine Visionary Speaks at GSSM SmartChat
Tuesday, February 19, 2013 - 1:05pm
On Monday, February 18, M. Tray Dunaway, MD, FACS, CHCO, a "business of medicine" visionary and former surgeon from Camden, addressed the student body as part of the School's SmartChat Speaker Series. His presentation took place at 4:00 p.m. on the GSSM campus in Hartsville, SC.
In 1997 Dr. Dunaway developed a compliance correct, Evaluation and Management (E&M) Risk Based Coding™ methodology. His subsequent documentation system has become a certified standard for facilities and practices nationwide and resulted in millions of dollars in additional revenue for hospitals and medical practices through improved physician documentation. The consulting opportunities gave Dunaway an insider's view of the "business of medicine" from a physician’s perspective.
Dunaway encourages establishing connections between the "dots of healthcare": hospitals, patients, doctors, businesses of medicine, payers, and a myriad of healthcare workers.
As a "dotsultant" and professional speaker, he shows healthcare people, businesses, and organizations how to increase their connectivity with other "dots of healthcare" to improve profitability, enhance their reputation, and to better serve patient needs.
During his SmartChat presentation, Dunaway will share his journey, how he went from being a surgeon, to becoming an innovator and speaker. He will also encourage students to use both sides of their brain and broaden their interests to achieve their full potential.
Funded by the GSSM Foundation, the SmartChat Speakers series is designed to enhance students' education while inspiring them through the stories and experiences of some of the Palmetto States' leading inovators in technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, research and medicine.
