Governor's School for Science & Math Announces Technology-based Summer Camp
COLUMBIA, S.C. & BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. - The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation is pleased to announce its relationship with Google and Berkeley County School District to pilot the Innovation, Technology & Entrepreneurship Among Middle Schoolers (iTEAMS) camp, a pioneering effort to build employability skills in tomorrow's workforce. -

Nucor Steel Awards S. C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics $9,000 Grant for Scientific Research
The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) has been awarded a $9,000 grant from Nucor Steel, the largest bar producer in the Southeast, to fund scientific research internships for three of its students. -

GSSM Foundation Hosts Career Day for the Junior Class
Twenty-three professionals Thursday took time out of their busy week to talk to GSSM’s junior class about their careers and college choices for Career Day 2009. With career choices varying from engineer to psychology professor, students were able to freely ask questions in the panel-format sessions. The panelists shared their college experiences, as well as gave insight to the trends they’ve noticed within their industries. -

GSSM Awarded $150,000 Grant by The Byerly Foundation
The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) has been awarded a $150,000 grant from The Byerly Foundation, a $24 million private organization in Hartsville that aims to improve the quality of life for its residents and attract businesses, tourism and families to the area. -

Harris E. DeLoach, Jr. Named 17th Townes Award Recipient by South Carolina's Governor's School for Science and Math
Harris E. DeLoach Jr., Sonoco chairman, president and chief executive officer, was honored Wednesday at the 20th Anniversary Celebration and 17th Annual Townes Award Dinner for the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) and named this year's recipient of the prestigious Dr. Charles H. Townes Award. Sonoco is a $4.1 billion global packaging manufacturer headquartered in Hartsville, S.C. -

GSSM awarded $100,000 grant by the AT&T Foundation
The grant will support programming of a new Unix-based computer lab. A special server and 12 initial workstations will launch this advanced computer science learning environment where students will study computer programming, communication between computers and computer systems management. The new Unix-based laboratory will be named the AT&T Advanced Computer Engineering Laboratory. -
