GSSM Foundation Receives $5,000 Grant from Vulcan Materials Company

For the second year in a row, The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics Foundation is pleased to announce a $5,000 contribution to its Summer Science Program (SSP) from Vulcan Materials Company, the largest construction aggregate producer in the state.
Established in 1990, SSP is a residential summer science camp for rising 8th, 9th and 10th graders from across the state. The program is designed for talented young teenagers interested in scientific principles, hands-on lab experiences and one-of-a-kind field trips. Students choose from three, one-week learning sessions, in which they live on the GSSM campus and attend full-day classes.
"Vulcan is very impressed with the mission of GSSM and we share the goal of promoting science and math skills as a means of producing a qualified work force in our State," said Vulcan Vice President of Operations Roger Dunlap. "Vulcan is involved in a number of education programs and GSSM is a good fit for our company."
