Time Warner Cable: Turning Things "On" at GSSM
October 15, 2006
Thanks to Time Warner Cable, the lobby at the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is more heightened than ever before. Gone are the days of old-fashioned bulletin boards, thumbtacks and miscellaneous flyers. In September, Time Warner Cable donated a 50-inch plasma television to be used for announcements, calendar items, events and world news.
"Along with all the students, I am very grateful to Time Warner Cable," said GSSM president Dr. Murray Brockman. "It gives a much more high-tech feel to our campus, and it will provide opportunities for computer science students to program new output. This just continues the great support we received from Adelphia, prior to the merger with Time Warner Cable. They endowed scholarships for students in their service area to attend the summer science program here. That support has already made a difference in students' lives."
Time Warner Cable has been a member of GSSM's Business Advisory Council since 2001 and is committed to helping teachers and students stay on top of today's rapidly changing technology. Their partnership with GSSM reinforces their commitment to encouraging creative and independent thinking.

"Time Warner Cable recognizes that the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics cultivates the uniqueness of each student while encouraging the development of a community of scholars," said Mary Anne Jacobs, Director of Public Affairs for Time Warner Cable's South Carolina Division. "This mission supports the company's efforts to identify and support students who, at some time, may become employees of Time Warner Cable."
Time Warner Cable will continue to partner with GSSM to ensure that students in South Carolina increase their ability to create and develop ideas. In 2005, Time Warner Cable's South Carolina Division contributed more than $3.4 million in cash and in-kind resources to support their philanthropic efforts throughout the division which includes GSSM.
Time Warner Cable owns and manages cable systems serving 14.4 million subscribers in 33 states. Leveraging its leadership in innovation and quality customer care, Time Warner Cable delivers advanced products and services such as video on demand, high definition television, digital video recorders, high-speed data and Digital Phone.
