Statewide ACT scores for the Palmetto State's Class of 2012 were recently released. Once again, the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) celebrates the highest in the state. With an average composite score of 30.3, GSSM is well above the national average of 21.1 and the state average of 20.2.
The ACT includes four different test categories: English, Math, Reading and Science. Scores for each category and the overall composite are based on a 36-point scale. The exam is used to measure student readiness for first-year college courses and the performance levels of public, private and home-based high schools.
"GSSM has maintained the highest score in the state for many years," said Dr. Murray Brockman, GSSM President. "These scores are a strong indication of GSSM's success as a model for academic excellence."
