GSSM Students Meet Nobel Laureate

Friday, June 15, 2012 - 10:00am

Three GSSM students, along with three students from the Johanna Wittum Schule in Pforzheim, Germany, had the opportunity to meet Dr. Harald zur Hausen, a 2008 Nobel Laureate in Medicine. Pictured from left: Max Hauser (JWS), Tobias Holden (GSSM), Torben Reinert (JWS), Eliza Rhodes (GSSM), Dr. zur Hausen, Nicole Eger (JWS), and Surya Veerabagu (GSSM).
Through the Research Exchange Scholars Program (RESP), the three GSSM students traveled to Germany last week to spend six weeks conducting research at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg.  While in Germany, the GSSM students will live with host families and tour the area.  This fall, the JWS students will travel to the Palmetto State to live at GSSM for six weeks and conduct research at the University of South Carolina.  RESP is made possible by the generous support of Roche Carolina Inc. and Hoffman-La Roche Inc.
