The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics

GSSM offered its innovative teacher training program, Portable Advanced Science Exploration, or PASE, to 12 Spartanburg County School District Six teachers, Monday, July 30 – Friday, August 3, 2012.

Designed by GSSM and launched in 2008, PASE promotes advanced science exploration through the use of cutting-edge technology. The program puts mobile learning devices in the hands of dedicated teachers, providing training that enables them to comfortably incorporate advanced technologies, including lab-based probeware, sensors and lasers, into classroom instruction.

Spartanburg District Six training kicked off on July 30 with a week-long seminar at the Dorman High School Freshman Campus in Roebuck. Teachers received in-depth instruction, gaining knowledge on how to integrate learning technologies and scientific equipment into their curriculum through engaging, challenging activities. After the training week's conclusion, teachers are able to borrow the equipment for use in their classrooms. In addition, participants will be offered multiple one-day, follow-up workshops throughout the school year for professional development.

PASE serves middle and high school teachers of physical science, chemistry, biology and physics in South Carolina, and their students. The Spartanburg District Six partnership is made possible thanks to an investment by Duke Energy.
