Governor's School for Science and Math MIT/NASA Zero Robotics Team Named Semifinalist in International Challenge
The GSSM robotics team, Pirate Squad, was recently named a tier one semifinalist in the Zero Robotics SPHERES Challenge 2011, which is organized by MIT and NASA. Ranked number seven out of 88 teams from around the world, the Pirate Squad is the only South Carolina team in the competition. -

GSSM Invites Teens to Take the SSP Challenge
GSSM is encouraging all rising 8th, 9th and 10th graders with a passion for science, technology or mathematics to register for its Summer Science Program. SSP is a week-long, residential summer camp held at GSSM's campus in Hartsville, SC. During SSP students will conduct interactive experiments in GSSM's state-of-the-art labs, participate in engaging sessions led by college professors and explore science outside of the classroom through field trips and other hands-on activities. -

GSSM Leads State High Schools in ACT, SAT Scores
The S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) had the highest ACT and SAT score averages among the Palmetto State's 2010 graduates, according to recently released reports from the S.C. Department of Education. Fifteen students from the class of 2010 recently were notified of their eligibility in the National Merit Semifinalists program. They are among 16,000 students across the United States now vying for 8,200 scholarships worth more than $36 million that will be offered next spring. -

GSSM Professor Elected to National Organization’s Board of Directors
Mark Godwin, GSSM physics instructor, has been elected to a three-year-term on the board of directors for the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology. He was elected at the organization’s annual professional conference in March. He previously served on the board from 2000-2007. -
