GSSM Announces National Achievement Semifinalists

The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that five members of the Class of 2008 were recently selected as National Achievement Semifinalists.

Christian Buckson, of Greenwood, son of Sylvia Spearman; Latoya Dixon, of Columbia, daughter of Victoria D. Mokeba; Ashley McClary, of Lane, daughter of Marion and Angela McClary; Maliek McKnight, of Columbia, son of Robert and Robin McKnight; and Chavis Stackhouse, of Andrews, son of Tasia Stackhouse and Zigmond Stackhouse.

Established in 1964, the National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition that provides recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Of the more than 130,000 students who currently enter the program each year, a smaller group of approximately 1,600 are named Semifinalists. These are the only students who have an opportunity to advance in the competition for Achievement Scholarship awards.
