Applications for Admission Now Available Online
November 6, 2007
The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) has made it easier than ever to apply for admission to its two-year early college experience through a brand-new online application. A completed application will consist of the following: the application form, a recent photograph, teacher recommendations, test scores and transcripts. A prospective student must be a legal resident of the state of South Carolina.
The GSSM admissions process is highly selective and takes into consideration class rank, standardized test scores, high school courses, grade point average, teacher recommendations and extracurricular activities. The School considers not only aptitude but also proven performance and demonstrated interest in science and mathematics.
Most applicants will have completed Geometry, Algebra I and II, a lab science, a year of foreign language and English II by the end of their sophomore year. PSAT/SAT scores of students attending GSSM typically range from 1000 to 1500. The grade point average (unweighted) generally ranges between 3.5 and 5.4.
Applications for admission are due by February 1 of a student's sophomore year. For more information, please contact GSSM's Admissions Department by calling 843-383-3944 or emailing admissions@gssm.k12.sc.us.
