The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and SC GEAR UP are pleased to announce an exceptional professional development opportunity for math teachers across the state.
The 2008 Summer Institute for Teaching Mathematics is an exciting program that will allow teachers to focus on improving content knowledge and instructional strategies in a supportive and collegial environment. The South Carolina Mathematics Curriculum Standards for elementary algebra and geometry will form the core of the institute's curriculum.
Thanks to a federal grant through SC GEAR UP, participants will receive an $800 stipend for each session completed. Participants will work with Governor's School faculty and guest master instructors in a rich learning environment with teachers from other SC GEAR UP schools.
The Summer Institute for Teaching Mathematics is expected to be a fun and rewarding opportunity to renew efforts for meeting the challenges all teachers face in today's classrooms.
