SSP FOR RISING NINTH GRADERS
Third Week: July 6-12 - College Prep Physics
DR. PATRICK BRIGGS, Associate Professor of Physics at the Citadel in Charleston, describes his course this way: “To prepare the student for college and university science, we will perform a series of experiments using college-level equipment and techniques. Topics include ballistic motion, mechanical properties of materials, wave motion, thermal effects in solids and gases, refraction of light through solids, and laser diffraction.” Tuition $515
Dr. Briggs (BA in Physics, Cal. State Univ. at Sacramento; PhD in Space Physics, Univ. of Kansas) joined the faculty of The Citadel in 1981; he teaches Astronomy, calculus-based intro physics and advanced mechanics. Dr. Briggs has been extensively involved with both teachers and students in improving science education in SC. He has coached Little League baseball and wishes he could spend more time out working in the backyard. RESEARCH: Solar and interplanetary ions.
