Oceans and Man - 9N

DR. RICHARD ZINGMARK, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Marine and Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, will explore the many interactions between humans and the oceans through lectures, visual presentations, laboratory activities, and a full-day field trip to Charleston to visit a marine laboratory, a clam farm, and the South Carolina Aquarium.  Tuition $560

After receiving a Fulbright Senior Scholars Award, Dr. Zingmark (BS, MS, Humboldt State Univ.; PhD, Univ. of California at Santa Barbara) lived for a year with his family on Majuro, a small coral atoll in the Marshall Islands where he taught marine biology and ecology at the College of Micronesia and did research on the mariculture of some commercially important seaweeds.  (Ask him about some prize-winning seaweed recipes.)  He has 38 years of research experience in South Carolina, primarily researching the physiological ecology of freshwater and marine algae.
