Summer Science Program 2010

SSP Student Testimonials

"I first found out about SSP through the GSSM website and by word of mouth. I attended SSP as a rising high school freshman during Summer 2005. I took the course 'Six-Legged Science,' taught by Dr. Don Manley of Clemson University's Pee Dee Research and Education Center. The class was quite enjoyable, and the professor was nice and knew his subject area extremely well. Attending SSP helped to give me a taste of what the GSSM environment is all about (classrooms, Hartsville, etc.) and what it's like to live away from home."

"I received mailings from GSSM regarding SSP during my eighth grade year. I decided to attend SSP, taking the course 'Challenge for the Mathematically Capable and Curious,' taught by Drs. Terry and Nancy Long of GSSM. SSP highly influenced my decision to apply to the Governor's School, as I loved the surrounding area and the challenge that it presented. I would definitely recommend SSP to anyone who has a desire to attend a challenging academic summer camp."

"I found out about SSP through my brother, Luke, who is a current senior at GSSM. I attended all three sessions last summer, and I know that I would have gone during previous summers if I would have known about it before. The three courses I took were: 'Eclectic Tour of Mathematics,' taught by Dr. K. Sris of GSSM; 'Amusement Park Physics,' taught by Dr. Mark Godwin of GSSM; and 'Web-based Gaming,' taught by Steven Weingartner of Florence-Darlington Technical College. Not only did the experience I had at SSP influence me to apply to Governor's School, but it also showed me what life would be like if I were to attend, something I couldn't experience anywhere else. My time at SSP was one of the only times in my life when I was around other people my age who were interested in the same things as me. I made so many new and interesting friends, and I still keep in touch with a lot of them."

"I found out about SSP through my brother, Luke, who is a current senior at GSSM. I attended the eighth grade FLL Robotics course during Summer 2007, taught by Dr. George Rudolph of The Citadel, and I had a great time. It helped me to decide that I want to now apply for GSSM's two-year residential program. SSP was a lot of fun and in addition to learning new things, I also made new friends. I would recommend SSP to others, and I plan to hopefully return this coming summer."
