The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics

GSSM students are talented not only in the areas of science and mathematics but also in the area of fine arts.

Musically talented students are encouraged to bring their instruments as there are many fellow musicians to "jam with."

Students in the Art Club spend time finding ways to beautify the new campus and add color to the walls. They often participate in art contests and display their art on Preview Days.

Every year it seems more and more students are interested in music at GSSM. There are both formal and informal ways for students to express themselves musically. Several students compete each year in All State Band competitions. The School also supports a Pep Band that performs at GSSM basketball games. Additionally, groups of students perform at Preview Days, Parents Day, Convocation and Graduation.

For some students, their voice is their instrument and what a beautiful sound it makes! Choral students perform at Convocation and Graduation and also hold concerts throughout the school year.

Informally, students gather in the music area and jam together when taking a break from academics. At any given time, visitors may find a saxophone, trumpet, several electric, acoustic and bass guitars, a drummer, some string instruments and a pianist playing Top 40 tunes in the north lobby.
