Educational Background
How long have you worked at GSSM?
Since August 2018
How long have you worked in academia?
I have taught college-level classes for 26 years at three institutions. Before that, I was a Research Associate with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for three years.
Tell us what you love about working at GSSM?
Although I haven't known the students long, I have thrown them a couple of challenging questions – to test the waters – and I am already impressed. I have also interacted with a number of faculty, and they are truly outstanding. I am delighted to be here.
Please list and describe any personal information you’d like to share.
I am originally from Rome, Italy, and came to the US when I was 24. My wife and I moved to Hartsville from Kentucky, where she was teaching middle-school math and science. She is now teaching 7th-grade math at Hartsville Middle School.
What would your students be surprised to learn about you?
I can often be spotted singing opera (badly!) in the hallways.
What is your perfect pizza?
I miss the original pizza Napoletana with its thin crust, tomato, cheese, and anchovies.
What is the best thing about Hartsville?
Kalmia Gardens, restaurants, tree-lined streets, and friendly people.
Who (living or deceased) would be invited to your fantasy dinner party?
Glenn Gould, for the conversation and so that I might convince him to play my piano after dinner.
What is your favorite quote?
"Fatti non foste a viver come bruti, ma per seguir virtute e conoscenza" – Dante Alighieri
(You were not made to live like brutes, but to pursue virtue and knowledge.)
