Celebrating the Class of 2020!

GSSM proudly graduated 126 residential students at a special ceremony on May 30 at the Darlington International Raceway. The residential Class of 2020 represents 31 South Carolina counties and 66 high schools. Sixty-four percent will remain in South Carolina to pursue their undergraduate studies. In total, the Class of 2020 received more than $12 million in scholarship offers, including such prestigious awards as USC Carolina Scholar, College of Charleston Colonial Scholar, the Gates Scholarship, Hollingsworth Scholar at Furman University, and the Johnson Scholarship at Washington & Lee University. On June 3, GSSM presented certificates of completion to the 23 students in the fifth graduating class of Accelerate, GSSM's virtual engineering program. The Accelerate Class of 2020 represents 6 South Carolina counties and 11 high schools. Ninety-one percent will remain in South Carolina to pursue their undergraduate studies, entering college with as many as 49 credit hours through Accelerate's dual-enrollment classes. Award-Winning Govies

Recent GSSM grad Shelby Moore '20 won first place in the high school division of the National Youth Art Month State Competition through the South Carolina Art Education Association. Sargent Art provided art supplies and a certificate as student and teacher prizes to Shelby Moore and Mrs. Patz Fowle, GSSM Visual Arts Coordinator.

GSSM's yearbook program was named a Jostens 2020 National Yearbook Program of Excellence, recognizing the 2020 yearbook for reflecting a broad representation of the student body, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process. Savannah Cade, Dorathea Lee, and Austin Millwood were the editors of the 2020 yearbook, under the direction of Kelly Butler, yearbook advisor.
