COVID can't keep GSSM down! Announcing 2020 Summer STEM with GSSM!

GSSM is proud to announce 2020 Summer STEM with GSSM: 27 virtual STEM courses for middle and high school students that will be held June 22 - July 17. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are providing these first-class virtual camps free of charge to all students!

Like our in-person camps, we will have challenging and fun science, technology, engineering, and math courses for students in grades 6 through 10. With 27 different sessions, there is something for everyone! Each 5-day-long class will feature daily real-time virtual instruction from GSSM's top-notch instructors, coupled with self-guided projects and virtual "office hours" when instructors will assist individual students in real time. GSSM will mail each student the materials they need for their class projects, plus a camp t-shirt!

We're thrilled that we can inspire students to get excited about STEM by providing these brand-new virtual summer experiences. Do you know a middle or high school student who is looking for something challenging and fun to do this summer? Check out our course offerings and apply online!

Govies excel in more than STEM!

Recently, two GSSM students were honored for their writing:

Lucia Brown '21 won first place in the 9-12 grade category of the South Carolina State Library’s annual Young Minds Dreaming Poetry Contest. Her winning poem, “Korralik”, was inspired by her love for the Estonian language and her experiences with her grandmother over the past few months.

Rachel Hogue '20 was awarded Honorable Mention in the 9-12 grade category of the annual Carl Sandburg Student Poetry Contest. Her poem, “Her Yarns”, was inspired by Carl Sandburg's "They Have Yarns" and the tradition of female storytelling paralleled with the movement of a textile loom.

Congratulations Lucia and Rachel!

GSSM is committed to wellness: physical and emotional. We're educating the next generation of doctors and scientists who will improve our physical wellness. And for now, we're offering a little Govie Fun to give you a mental break. We hope you're making the best of these unusual circumstances, and if there is anything the GSSM Foundation can do for you, please let us know!

Sponsor Spotlight: CPM Federal Credit Union

cpm logoCPM Federal Credit Union is a major champion of GSSM's summer camps! For the last six years, CPM has sponsored iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation and CREATEng statewide. Their support provided financial aid to ensure that all students have access to these camps.

This summer, CPM eagerly agreed to shift their funding to support Summer STEM with GSSM. Gergen is a proud member of the GSSM Foundation Board of Directors and looks forward to beginning his term as Board President in July.

Formed in 1955 by employees of the Charleston Paper Mill, CPM has grown to a nationally recognized credit union serving more than 58,000 customers in communities across South Carolina. CPM's commitment to exceptional service and value is demonstrated by their motto: Carolina People Matter.

GSSM is proud to call CPM Federal Credit Union a partner. Thank you for investing so much in our amazing school and exceptional students!
