The SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) offers advanced residential, virtual, and outreach programs to the state's most talented and motivated students. GSSM is a public, tuition-free, STEM high school for high achieving students across the state of South Carolina.

The Academic Affairs coordinator works closely with the Vice President of Academics to carry out the activities of the Academic Affairs division, and is responsible to:

  • help plan, manage and coordinate academic events such as convocation, graduation, and lab experiences.
  • organize, edit, and maintain a repository of academic documents such as course catalogs, academic calendars, student and faculty handbooks, and academic policies.
  • provide administrative assistance to the Vice President of Academics and other academic administrators.

On a day to day basis, the Academic Affairs Coordinator will:

  • Plan, manage and coordinate for-credit and not-for-credit academic activities
  • Organize, edit, and maintain a repository of academic policies and documents
  • Coordinate academic affairs functions with internal and external partners and other constituents
  • Interact with faculty, students, and parents on behalf of the Office of Academic Affairs
  • Craft communications from the Office for Academic Affairs
  • Conduct data and situational analysis and reporting to inform administrative team decisions
  • Provide advice on relevant academic and programmatic issues
  • Participate in academic administrative team meetings

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, inquisitive, creative, and appreciates being part of a highly qualified and motivated team. Specifically, we seek someone with:

  • A bachelor's degree and experience working in education or in a related area
  • At least five years’ experience in relevant program support, event planning, process coordination, and executive administrative assistance with evidence of strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Substantial experience using personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and virtual meeting software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of diverse stakeholders including administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents; work independently and as a part of a team; handle constructive criticism; process multiple tasks; and monitor program timelines and provide attention to detail.
  • Some experience with data/situational analysis and reporting to various audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or other relevant area
  • Specific experience in curriculum design or development

This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits through the state of South Carolina. Salary is competitive and commiserate with experience and qualifications. It is based at GSSM’s main campus in Hartsville SC and may involve weekend, holiday, or after-hours work.
