As a member of the Corporate Accounting Group, this position’s Primary Responsibilities are to:
Perform and /or review analyses of corporate accruals and related expenses,
Prepare consolidated financial statements and public company filings,
Research accounting/reporting issues and develop support for selected accounting treatments, and provide support to division finance staff on accounting issues.
Duties may also include:
Coordinating the corporate expense budgeting and forecasting processes,
Preparing internal reports and analyses of business operating results and
Performing other corporate projects as assigned.
Primary deliverables include:
Accrual analyses and related journal entries,
Internal and external financial reports,
Analyses of both department and consolidated financial results,
Financial statements and assigned disclosures
As well as certain internal reports and analyses for senior management and other Finance Department personnel.
The individual in this position will leverage his/her strong technical accounting and reporting knowledge and analytical skills to perform his/her recurring responsibilities proactively with minimal direct supervision.
This individual should also be capable of taking on non-routine accounting-related assignments, identifying and resolving issues, managing tasks to completion with limited supervision/guidance, and providing supervision/guidance to junior staff members in a constructive manner.
This is a progression position and could be a level I, II, or III. Compensation and progression level will be based on candidate’s experience and education, and current business needs.
Review general ledger and subsidiary ledger transactions/balances to ensure accuracy and proper accounting treatment.
Prepare financial statements, including the cash flow statement and related analyses.
Perform/review detailed analysis on a quarterly basis of various corporate accounts/activities, which may include such items as: Intercompany Profit Reserve, Pension Liability/Expense, Group/Medical Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Post-retirement Benefits, Employee Stock Plans and Performance-based Compensation; Directors Fees; General Insurance, Derivatives and Hedging transactions and Restructuring Reserve accruals; coordinate as needed with division accounting personnel to insure appropriate adjustments are made.
Prepare/review quarterly and annual SEC filings (Form 10-Q, Form 10-K).
Research and document accounting issues. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of current GAAP and SEC accounting guidance to ensure compliance.
Prepare/review supporting work papers and schedules for external audit.
Prepare or assist with preparation of non-routine SEC filings (i.e. major acquisitions/dispositions; public debt offering; registering securities, etc.).
Responsible for preparation/review of selected Benefit Plan financial statements for filing with the SEC and/or the Department of Labor. Includes the preparation of appropriate work papers and supporting schedules, dealings with the external auditors, outside actuaries/service providers, and internal tax and benefits’ personnel.
Identify corporate accounting/reporting process improvement opportunities; assist in design/re-design of targeted processes.
Provide corporate service departments with general accounting support, including monthly allocations and reporting.
Write/update company-wide accounting policies as required.
Perform/support special projects and other duties as assigned.
Ability to effectively analyze accounting information and financial results for accuracy and completeness as well as for understanding of the underlying drivers.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to gain the confidence and cooperation of people at all levels of the organization; effective teamwork skills whether as a member or a leader.
Ability to effectively organize and structure activities on daily basis, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work to a deadline.
Ability to plan and manage small to medium-sized projects/project teams.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Self-motivated, proactive, with a desire to learn/grow.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (with an Accounting focus); higher-level certification such as CPA, CMA, MBA or advanced degree in Accounting preferred.
5 - 10 years of directly relevant financial accounting and/or corporate reporting experience; hands-on exposure to intermediate and advanced accounting concepts and methods.
Big 4 or multi-regional public accounting and/or direct SEC reporting experience a plus
