As our Virtual Engineering programs expand, GSSM is seeking a Mathematics/Computer Science Instructor. Applicants should have a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering or a related field and three years of experience teaching Mathematics in a high school or college setting. Expertise in teaching in distance education—in an online and/or interactive video conferencing classroom is a plus, as is experience in curriculum development. General academic advising, and occasional evening/weekend commitments are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.
Desired qualifications include a strong content knowledge of mathematics and computer science, experience in teaching mathematics in a college or advanced high school, and a passion for student-centered teaching and learning. Applicants should have an interest in distance education, curriculum development, and planning, as well as a proven record of excellence and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all sectors of the GSSM community. Applicants should also be dedicated to continual growth, both as teachers and learners.
GSSM Virtual Engineering programs are being offered to cultivate the next generation of engineers, problem solvers, and technical leaders, providing motivated high school students from across South Carolina an innovative and accelerated path toward college engineering degrees. The instructor selected for the open position will work with other faculty to implement an integrated curriculum that is taught virtually (online and/or interactive video conferencing) to high school students throughout the state of South Carolina. Possible course assignments for this position include Algebra 3, Precalculus, Calculus, AP Computer Science Principals, Matlab, and Python. In addition, the instructor may develop new courses as needed. These positions report to the Mathematics Department Head and will collaborate with other members of the GSSM faculty and staff. This is a full-time Temporary (10-month) teaching position, with benefits available through the State of South Carolina. A public school teaching certificate is not required. Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials, experience and unique capabilities.
