This job is largely in a laboratory setting and will focus on physical and analytical testing for the entire Consumer Packaging division (Rigid Paper, Rigid Plastic, and Flexibles) and some Industrial groups at Sonoco. The intention is to develop this individual into a supervisor. Testing will support R&D, sales, marketing, and plant quality requests/projects.
This is a progression position and could be a level I or II. Compensation and progression level will be based on candidate’s experience and education, and current business needs.
Proven leadership skills and initiative
Good verbal and written communication skills (including grammatical)
Must be able to establish positive working relationships with all personnel (colleagues, plant personnel, upper management and customers)
Advanced technical writing skills
Analytical trouble shooting skills to identify and resolve causes
Knowledge of statistics to accurately and unambiguously interpret data
Capable of prioritizing and multi-tasking (good time management & organizational skills)
Originates ideas and makes recommendations based on data generated
Create test protocols and develops test method
Attention to detail
Maintains complete and accurate work records
Works well under pressure
Motivated to acquire technical, packaging and testing knowledge. Capable of cross-training quickly
Must be able to work alone or as part of a team
Familiar with good laboratory practices and safe handling of hazardous materials.
Bachelor Degree in a Science related field
2 - 5 years laboratory experience
