Location: Hartsville, SC

This is a full-time state of South Carolina, 10-month, live-in position reporting to the Dean of Students.  The Residence Life Coordinator’s (male dormitory) main responsibilities are to develop and supervise the residential living environment at the Governor’s School, which includes providing a safe, healthy, and fun living experience for approximately 288 students   Persons in this position develop and offer programming focused on the whole person, provide counseling, interpret and enforce community standards and administer discipline as necessary.  Night work and weekend work are required.

Duties:

  1. Direct, guide, and supervise students in all non-academic areas

  2. Counsel students on an individual and group basis

  3. Supervise two resident assistants (paraprofessionals) directly and 12 others indirectly

  4. Provide developmental programming for students using our Residential Curriculum.

  5. Support community building and personal growth and development for all residents

  6. Manage crises, conflicts and emergencies

  7. Set guidelines for acceptable behavior; interpret and enforce GSSM policies

  8. Administer discipline when necessary

  9. Serve on committees and special projects as needed

  10. Communicate with parents and guardians as needed

  11. Prepare quarterly reports to parents informing them about their student’s progress

  12. Maintain regular office hours and on-call duties

  13. Enter discipline action in school data base

  14. Other duties as assigned and designated

Qualifications:

Must have a bachelor’s degree in an education or human services related field with comparable experience. Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s license and pass a SLED background check. 

Salary and Benefits:

This is a 10-month position which includes a furnished two bedroom apartment, phone service, cable, Internet access, utilities and board when our dining hall is open. Full State of South Carolina benefits, including insurance and retirement program are also included in the compensation package. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
