In alignment with its mission, GSSM seeks exceptional full-time permanent Virtual and Outreach Enrollment Counselor.

As a school nationally recognized for academic excellence that accepts students from across South Carolina talented in the STEM areas, SCGSSM invites applications for a Virtual/Outreach Enrollment Counselor.  This position works closely with prospective students, high school and middle school guidance counselors, parents, alumni, and other constituencies to promote and recruit the best possible students to participate in SCGSSM Virtual and Outreach Programs. 

Position Information: Successful candidate will be dedicated to informing prospective students about the admissions based GSSM Virtual and Outreach Programs.  This position will be responsible for the recruitment, identification and selection of students who are highly talented in STEM. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: delivering information sessions to various groups, building relationships with middle and high schools counselors in South Carolina, visiting schools, attending school fairs, conferences and academic competitions across the state promoting SC GSSM Virtual and Outreach Programs; explaining and clarifying the admissions process to teachers, counselors, school administration, community advocates, parents and students; creating and maintaining a potential applicant database; advising and supporting the admissions marketing plan; developing reports concerning recruitment effort trends throughout the state, as needed; representing GSSM at professional and educational conferences, academic competitions and other community events. Counseling families on application process; virtual/outreach programs; completing competitive applications; provide support for student retention initiatives, and participating in the admissions selection process.

Experience of Applicants: The person in this position must demonstrate understanding of gifted high school age populations. Must also possess the ability to communicate effectively and conduct information presentations with a variety of audiences of varying age levels and diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to identify objectives, develop programs and carry out procedures to attain objectives is also required of this position. Knowledge of current curriculum in secondary education in the state of South Carolina; as well as GSSM is required and excellent verbal communication, written communication, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals, the ability to balance priorities, and public speaking skills are also required. Extensive travel within South Carolina along with evening and weekend hours are to be expected.

Education of Applicants: A bachelor’s degree is required with some experience in student services, education, or a related field. Preference will be give to candidates with at least one year of admissions experience. Master’s degree preferred.
