On Friday, March 23rd, three delegates from GSSM traveled to the South Carolina Future Business Leaders of America’s Annual State Leadership Conference in North Charleston.
Carolyn Rita Alan, a current Junior from Sumter, Elija Jordan, a Junior from Cayce, and Kate O’Keefe, a Junior from Fort Mill, attended the weekend conference where they represented the school in professional workshops and elected state chapter officers for the coming year.
Carolyn was elected to serve as SCFBLA State Secretary for the 2019-2020 school year. Elijah, Kate, and members of other school delegations worked hard to help Carolyn campaign through the weekend. Competition was strong and after four rounds of voting, Carolyn was elected on the final ballot. Congratulations to her and her campaign team!
The group is bringing back many ideas to help GSSM’s SCFBLA chapter compete successfully in next year’s district and state leadership conferences. Special thanks to Ms. Jordan Bailey ’11 who facilitated the trip.
The national Future Business Leaders of America is associated with Phi Beta Lambda and was started in 1937 to connect business organizations in high schools and colleges across the country for collaboration and skill-building competitions. The South Carolina charter of FBLA is the non-profit organization’s 5th state charter and was started in 1949. The South Carolina charter boasts 3,000 student members from across the state.
