Anna Hewitt, a GSSM senior, was awarded first place in the high school division of the South Carolina Art Education Association's Eastern Region Youth Art Month Competition.
Hewitt is the daughter of Karen S. and Kent E. Hewitt of Aiken. Her winning art piece is titled “Raised by Wolves.”
“Though I painted "Raised by Wolves" over a year ago now, and I've progressed in both my style and handling of the media, it is still a very dear piece to me,” Hewitt says. “I wanted to create a juxtaposition between the man's appearance and the scene around him in order to inspire viewers to reconsider the preconceived notions we all form about others from time to time.”
The South Carolina Art Education Association's Youth Art Month Exhibition is currently on display at the The Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Library's Morris Gallery. Artwork will remain on display until Wednesday, April 4. Three other GSSM students—Stevie Evans, child of Cynthia and Anthony Evans, of Lexington; Hayley Pflug, child of Kelly and Paul Pflug, of Fort Mill; and Melissa Shugart, child of Shelley H. and Todd S. Shugart, of Carlisle—also have artwork featured in the exhibition.
