Dear GSSM Family,
As you know, safety is always our highest priority. Therefore, in addition to Monday’s class cancellation, we are cancelling classes on Tuesday so that families have no need to drive on roads that remain hazardous today. We are hopeful to resume classes on Wednesday, but we will only do so if travel conditions around the state have improved significantly. We will let you know as soon as possible.
Right now, we have about 50 students on campus who returned on Sunday. While they may be a little bored, they’re safe, fed, and well-supervised. We advise all other students to remain home today and to remain alert for additional messages from us.
If you DO plan for your child to return today, please let us know by calling the RLC duty phone (843 858-1603) and emailing Mr. Staples (email@example.com) so that we will know to look for them.
If you must drive today, please ensure that your route is clear and safe to travel before you get on the road. We have found that a good source of information is the SC Department of Transportation’s web site (www.scdot.org).
Lastly, we are deeply concerned that there may be members of the GSSM community who are among those most severely affected by the flooding. Those families may need their children at their sides to help and recover. It is also possible that those families may not have access to email and have not received our bulletins. If you need to keep your student with you to assist with recovery, or you know of a family who has been displaced by the flooding, please let us know. We want to help all that we can.
Our state has endured historic rainfall levels over the past few days. So far, Hartsville has been among the fortunate communities suffering relatively minor damage. As South Carolinians, our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go to those who are suffering the loss of family, homes, and property.
