The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that Dr. Helga Rippen, president and CEO of Health Science South Carolina, will address students and faculty during an upcoming SmartChat speaking engagement. Her presentation regarding health sciences will take place April 13 at 12:45 p.m. on the GSSM campus.
Rippen received her medical degree from the University of Florida, completed her medical residency training at Johns Hopkins University, where she also received her MPH, and obtained her PhD in biomedical engineering from Duke University. She is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and is board certified in public health and general preventive medicine in addition to clinical informatics.
Currently, Rippen is the president and CEO of Health Sciences South Carolina and is a clinical professor at the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.
A program of the BlueCross BlueShield Economics & Finance Institute, the SmartChat Speaker Series is designed to enhance students' education while inspiring them through the stories and experiences of GSSM alumni and leading innovators in the areas of biology, chemistry, computer science, government, economics, history, physics, drama, film and writing.
