GSSM congratulates Eva Godwin ‘22 and Emma Gully ‘23 on their acceptance to the All-State Honors Choir for the 2021-2022 school year.
Earning a position in the All-State Choir is a high honor for high school choral students. Godwin placed in the Soprano 1 section, and Gully earned placement in the Alto section. Both students practiced long hours and competed in a talented field of singers from across the state. “I am very proud of both students for all their hard work to earn such an honor,” said Miranda E. Averill, GSSM Music Program Coordinator.
Four other Eagles distinguished themselves by achieving chairs in the 2021 Region 5 Orchestra. Congratulations to Ailani Fraser ‘22, 1st chair viola, Harris Kiaris ‘23 7th chair, 2nd violin section, Callie Kim ‘22, 2nd chair, 2nd violin section, Mia Kim ‘22, 2nd chair, 1st violin section.
The Region 5 Orchestra clinic took place at Myrtle Beach High School, November 12th-13th. Earning placement in the Region Orchestra is one of the highest honors for talented orchestra students across the region of South Carolina.
“The past two years have been challenging for all music students, but as long as they have the most effective tools and use them in practice consistently, nothing can take away their success,” said Averill. “For most of our students, it is not about the competition; music is part of their souls. They genuinely enjoy making music through all the forms of the creative process: learning, studying, practicing, writing, sharing, and performing. Students who possess a true love of music are bound for success, but that is not the most rewarding part. The most rewarding part is connecting and sharing with others in a very unique and beautiful way, and those experiences and relationships last a lifetime.”
The SCMEA Choral Division and Orchestra Division provides leadership and assistance for the development of choral and orchestral music programs in the schools, colleges, and universities throughout South Carolina. GSSM students participate annually in regional and state level competitions and regularly achieve outstanding results.
Congratulations to our talented Eagles and to young musicians across the state for their achievement.
