The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is now accepting applications for its 2016 summer camps in Orangeburg County. Online applications are available at http://www.scgssm.org/outreach-camps.
The following camps will be held in Orangeburg at William J. Clark Middle School:
- iTEAMS Xtreme: June 13–16, 2016
- iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation: June 20-23, 2016
- CREATEng: June 27-30, 2016
iTEAMS Xtreme is GSSM’s computer science, technology and entrepreneurship summer camp for rising 7th and 8th graders and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation is GSSM’s newest camp for rising 7th and 8th graders, focused on robotics and Arduino technology. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. CREATEng is GSSM’s engineering and design-thinking day camp for rising 8th and 9th graders, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
Each camp serves 60 students.
The application deadline for all of GSSM’s summer programs is May 13, 2016.
Due to the generosity of The Boeing Company, all camps offered in Orangeburg County are delivered at no cost to students and fill up quickly due to high demand. Included with each camp are instructional materials, a T-shirt, lunches, snacks and either a guest speaker or a field trip.
GSSM is also hiring teachers from the local Orangeburg community to serve as camp instructors. The application deadline for teaching positions is March 31, 2016.
