The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is now accepting applications for CREATEng, its advanced, interactive engineering summer camp for rising 8th and 9th graders. Online applications are available at www.scgssm.org/createng.
CREATEng is a one-of-a-kind, four-day immersion into engineering and design-based thinking delivered in satellite locations across the state. Working in teams, students engage in a problem-based curriculum where they apply the principles of engineering design to solve daily challenges.
CREATEng will be held at the following locations:
- Aiken County: June 13-16, 2016, Aiken High School
- Greenville County: June 20-23, 2016, Fisher Middle School
- Dorchester County: July 11-14, 2016, Fort Dorchester High School
- Greenwood County: July 18-21, 2016, Lander University
Each camp serves 60 students and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. There is an early bird registration fee of $225 per camper if paid with submitted application before April 11, 2016. Following that, the cost increases to $250 per camper. This includes all instructional materials, a T-shirt, lunches and snacks. Need-based scholarships are available.
The application deadline for all of GSSM’s summer programs is May 13, 2016.
GSSM is also hiring teachers from local communities to serve as CREATEng camp instructors. The application deadline for teaching positions is March 31, 2016.
