GSSM Accepting Applications for its iTEAMS Xtreme Summer Camp in Richland, Spartanburg, Charleston, Florence

The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is now accepting applications for iTEAMS Xtreme, its computer science, technology and entrepreneurship summer camp. Online applications are available at

iTEAMS Xtreme is GSSM's computer science, technology and entrepreneurship day camp for rising 7th and 8th graders across the Palmetto State. During iTEAMS Xtreme, campers explore the latest technologies while engaging their innovative side to develop an idea for a new product. Challenges focus on 3-D printing, mobile app development, and creating interactive objects using MaKey MaKey.

iTEAMS Xtreme will be held at the following locations:

  • Richland County: June 20–23, 2016, W.J. Keenan High School 
  • Spartanburg County: June 27–30, 2016, Carver Middle School 
  • Charleston County: July 11–14, 2016, Palmetto Scholars Academy 
  • Florence County: July 18–21, 2016, Sneed Middle School 

Each camp serves 60 students and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. There is an early bird registration fee of $165 per camper if paid with submitted application before April 11, 2016. Following that, the cost increases to $185 per camper. This includes all instructional materials, a T-shirt, snacks and a pizza party on the final day of camp. Full, need-based scholarships are available.

The application deadline for all of GSSM’s summer programs is May 13, 2016.

GSSM is also hiring teachers from local communities to serve as iTEAMS Xtreme camp instructors. The application deadline for teaching positions is March 31, 2016.
