Over two months, GSSM faculty and staff have been participating in a community service project created by members of the GSSM community, The Purposeful Purse Project.
The project was designed to collect gently used purses and bags and fill them with snacks and toiletries to donate to the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault. On December 18th, GSSM donated 83 purses to the Pee Dee Coalition filled with toiletries, snacks, and other items (e.g., scarfs, blankets, etc.).
The Pee Dee Coalition was extremely grateful as were we to be able to do this for our community. "We are blessed to be a part of a community that responded with such generosity," said Dr. Emilye Mobley, GSSM Vice President for Student Development. "I look forward to our rallying again as colleagues to build and support the community in this manner."
The project exceeded the initial expectations with a goal of at least 20 to 30 purses. It is an understatement to say that the first faculty and staff community service project was a success. GSSM is thankful to be able to give to this organization and the lives of those they serve this holiday season.
