In early fall, the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Math Foundation (GSSM-F) will host a duo of Southern-inspired community events to benefit the school’s growing domestic and international research programs.
The Magnolia Ladies Luncheon will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2016, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the Sip & Sup Southern Soiree will be held Thursday, October 6, 2016, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Both events will take place at Kalmia Gardens, 1624 W. Carolina Ave, Hartsville, SC.
The Magnolia Ladies Luncheon will feature special guest Rebecca W. Darwin, founder and CEO of Charleston-based Garden & Gun. Darwin will share stories about her career, the founding of the magazine, and the company’s ongoing expansion to include books, events and more. A selection of Garden & Gun books will be available for purchase during the event.
The Sip & Sup Soiree will feature a Southern-style celebration for GSSM friends and supporters with good food, drink and entertainment taking center stage. This year’s fare will include bourbon and craft beer tasting, live music, and biscuits and BBQ galore.
“We look forward every year to bringing our signature events to GSSM’s hometown where we can celebrate our School with friends and supporters from the Pee Dee,” said Kim Bowman, CEO, GSSM Foundation and EVP Strategic Direction, GSSM. “With a school like GSSM, and a city like Hartsville, celebrating past progress and future potential always comes easy.”
Proceeds from both events will benefit GSSM’s Summer Program for Research Interns and its international counterpart, the Research Experience Scholars Program, which give students an opportunity to conduct real-world research at a university or corporate R&D facility under the mentorship of professional scientists, entrepreneurs and engineers.
