Engineering summer camp at Aiken High School
On June 13, 2016, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) will kick off its CREATEng day camp for Aiken County students. CREATEng will be held June 13-16 at Aiken High School for rising 8th and 9th graders who have a strong interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
CREATEng is a one-of-a-kind, four-day immersion into design-based thinking. Working in teams, students engage in a problem-based curriculum where they apply principles of engineering design to solve daily challenges. Students will compete in daily challenges and interact with engineers on-site and during field trips. The camp will serve up to 60 students.
GSSM's financial partners for CREATEng in Aiken include Aiken Electric Cooperative, American Honda Foundation, BAE Systems, Bridgestone American Tire Operations, CPM Federal Credit Union, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, MTU America, Inc., Publix Super Markets Charities, The Carlstar Group, The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area, The Kroger Company, Time Warner Cable and Walmart.
Members of the media are invited to attend the CREATEng closing showcase on Thursday, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at Aiken High School, 449 Rutland Dr, Aiken, SC 29801.
