GSSM Kicks Off CREATEng Camp in Greenville

June 20, 2016

Engineering summer camp at Fisher Middle School

On June 20, 2016, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) will kick off its CREATEng day camp for Greenville County students. CREATEng will be held June 20-23 at Fisher Middle School for rising 8th and 9th graders who have a strong interest in science, technology, engineering and math.

CREATEng is a one-of-a-kind, four-day immersion into design-based thinking. Working in teams, students engage in a problem-based curriculum where they apply principles of engineering design to solve daily challenges. Students will compete in daily challenges and interact with engineers on-site and during field trips. The camp will serve up to 60 students.

GSSM's financial partners for CREATEng in Greenville include 3M, American Honda Foundation, AVX Corporation, Baldor Electric, BMW Manufacturing Co., CPM Federal Credit Union, Lockheed Martin, Michelin North America, Publix Super Markets Charities, The Graham Foundation, Time Warner Cable, Vulcan Materials Company and Walmart.

Members of the media are invited to attend the CREATEng closing showcase on Thursday, June 23, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at Fisher Middle School, 700 Millennium Blvd, Greenville, SC 29607.
