GSSM Kicks Off iTEAMS Xtreme Camp in Spartanburg

Technology-based summer camp at Carver Middle School

On June 27, 2016, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) will kick off its iTEAMS Xtreme day camp for Spartanburg County students. iTEAMS Xtreme will be held June 27-30 at Carver Middle School for rising 7th and 8th graders who have a strong interest in computer science, technology and entrepreneurship.

iTEAMS Xtreme is a four-day camp designed to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields through hands-on, team-based projects. Working cooperatively, and using the latest technologies to solve problems, students will create mobile apps, interactive objects and 3D models. The camp will serve up to 60 middle school students. 

GSSM's financial partners for iTEAMS Xtreme in Spartanburg County include Advance America, AFL, American Honda Foundation, BMW Manufacturing Co., Contec, CPM Federal Credit Union, First Citizens, Harris Teeter, Parker Hannifin, Piedmont Natural Gas, Publix Super Markets Charities, Russell F. Powell, Waddell & Reed, Time Warner Cable and Walmart.

Members of the media are invited to attend the iTEAMS Xtreme closing showcase on Thursday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at Carver Middle School, 467 S Church St, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
