GSSM Robotics Team Wins FTC FIRST Tech Challenge

The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics’ (GSSM) robotics team 772, Caveman with Rock, has been selected to represent South Carolina in the FTC FIRST Tech Challenge Super-Regional Competition in San Antonio, TX, on March 13-15, 2015.

Team 772 won the top prize, the Inspire award, after competing in the FTC FIRST Tech Challenge State Competition on January 31, 2015, advancing them to the South Super-Regionals. This award is given to teams who are examples to others and help them develop their capabilities in robotics. Earlier in January, the students on Team 772 organized a scrimmage for all FTC teams across South Carolina. The team also spent two weeks teaching robotics to students from Carolina Elementary School.

Additionally, Team 772 won the Control Award during the State Competition for building a robot that uses intelligence in its autonomous program.

Members of Team 772 are Adam Blocker (captain), son of Keith and Dawn Blocker of Hampton; Mike Bhoi, son of Paul and Karen Bhoi of Beaufort; Grace Brueggman, daughter of Richard and Judy Brueggman of Beaufort; Selen Berkman, daughter of Minis and Mert Berkman of Greenville; Tyler Brown, son of Peter Brown and Kathryn Helt of Greenville; Willie Li, son of Nai Li and Xia Ni of Horry; Elli Stuckey, daughter of Pete and Dawn Stuckey of Hampton; Andy Hsu, son of Shu-Hao Hsu and Hsiu-Ying Huang of Florence and Jack Tabb, son of Richard and S. Fraser Tabb of Greenville.
