GSSM Students to Host Brunch Honoring Veterans and Active Duty Service Members

November 12, 2015

The Bring a Smile to Service Club at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics will host a Veterans Day brunch to honor veterans and active duty military service members. The brunch will be held Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m. to Noon on GSSM’s campus at 401 Railroad Avenue in Hartsville. Check-in will be held at the Center Lobby of the School.

Featured performers include the GSSM Glee group, known as GleeSSM, and the School’s orchestral ensemble. The brunch will also feature a poetry reading and a special recognition ceremony for veterans.

In addition, GSSM’s students will conduct a care package drive for deployed service members and will be accepting nonperishable, toiletry and entertainment donations at the brunch. Monetary donations will also be accepted to help cover shipping costs.

“We hope to have as many veterans attend as possible so that we can show them the respect and appreciation they truly deserve,” said Grace Brueggman, president of GSSM’s Bring a Smile to Service club.

The Bring a Smile to Service club focuses on bettering the lives of deployed service members by writing letters, sending care packages, and hosting events to honor veteran service men and women, along with those who died in service.

RSVPs can be directed to Grace Brueggman at gbrueggman16@gssm.k12.sc.us.
