GSSM Students to Present College-Level Research at 28th Annual Colloquium

January 24, 2017

During the 28th Annual Colloquium, 129 students from the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) will present their findings from scientific research conducted during their participation in the 2016 Summer Program (SPRI), and its international component, the Research Experience Scholars Program (RESP). New to this year’s Colloquium, four students will also present findings from their year-long research experience at GSSM.

When: Saturday, February 4, 2017, 10 a.m.

Where: GSSM, 401 Railroad Avenue, Hartsville, South Carolina, 29550

More:  SPRI and RESP are Capstone programs exclusive to GSSM. For six weeks between their junior and senior years, students conduct research at university or corporate research and development facilities under the mentorship of professional scientists, entrepreneurs or engineers. The students then work with their research mentors and GSSM advisors during their senior year to compile and analyze their research findings and prepare formal research papers. The culmination of summer research is Colloquium, during which, students formally present their projects to their peers, mentors, families and GSSM faculty and friends.

During the opening ceremony at 10 a.m., GSSM will honor Barbara Speziale, PhD, with its Distinguished Research Leadership Award.
