On Friday, February 15, dignitaries from across the state gathered on the GSSM campus to recognize the role that the Hartsville Cotton Mill played in Hartsville's history and the development of the Governor's School. In 1900, the mill was chartered by Major J.L Coker, Founder of Sonoco Products Company, Coker College, and other local businesses. The mill was later sold to the Milliken & Company and operated into the 1980s. The MIlliken Company donated the land to support GSSM's growth and future.
