The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that Russell Cook, an expert on the South Carolina economy, will address GSSM students during a SmartChat speaker engagement. His presentation regarding finance and economics will take place November 10 at 4 p.m. on the GSSM campus in Hartsville.
Cook is the managing director of Comporium Ventures, the investment arm of the diversified communications company Corporium, Inc., headquartered in Rock Hill. Comporium’s endeavors include communication-related startups and an increasing number of investments in the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) market.
Prior to joining Comporium, Cook served as managing director of 4e Ventures and was a key member of the startup team of SCLaunch, a collaboration among the SC Research Authority, Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina, which provided emerging technology companies with access to seed capital.
Cook also serves as a trustee for South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, a director for Boys Farm, a director for the STEM Development Foundation, a member of the Michelin Development Steering Committee and a mentor for The Iron Yard Accelerator. He is a graduate of Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
A program of the BCBS Economics & Finance Institute, the SmartChat Speaker Series is designed to enhance students' education while inspiring them through the stories and experiences of GSSM alumni, as well as the Palmetto State’s leading innovators in biology, chemistry, computer science, drama and film, economics, history, physics and writing.
