June 8, 2016

The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that Nicole Johnson, GSSM Class of 2016, was awarded one of 17 $10,000 Timken Global Scholarships.

Johnson, daughter of Dan and Dea Johnson of Anderson County, will attend Clemson University in the fall.

During her time at GSSM, Johnson captained the Swim Team and ran track. She was a member of GSSM’s Culinary Club, Outing Club and National Honor Society.

In the summer following her junior year, Johnson conducted advanced research in the Center for Environmental NanoScience Research at the University of South Carolina.

This year, she was named a GSSM Athlete Scholar, and graduated with a concentration in chemistry.

“Winning this scholarship is surreal,” Johnson said. “I am very thankful for the opportunities I was given at GSSM that helped me achieve such an honor.”
