The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that Representative Jenny Horne will address students and faculty during an upcoming SmartChat speaking engagement. Her presentation regarding law and politics will take place March 10 at 4 p.m. on the GSSM campus.
Horne is serving her fourth term in the South Carolina House of Representatives for House District 94 in Dorchester and Charleston Counties. She serves on the Judiciary Committee where she chairs the Special Laws Subcommittee. In 2013, Rep. Horne was elected by her peers to serve on the House Ethics Committee.
Horne is the owner of the Jenny Horne Law Firm, LLC in Summerville where she practices in the areas of real estate, family law, employment law and general litigation. She is a 1994 graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College and a 1997 graduate of the USC School of Law. After graduation, she clerked for Federal Trial Judge Margaret Beane Seymour.
Horne has been named Legislator of the Year by the YMCA, the Charleston Trident Homebuilders Association and the Association of Personal Care Providers. Recently, Horne received the Bert Cicenia award from the Lowcountry Children's Center for her advocacy on behalf of children. She has been featured in the Charleston Regional Business Journal's "Forty Under 40." Most recently, she was selected for a national award by Politico magazine as one of the “Top 50 Influencers on Government" for 2015.
A program of the BlueCross BlueShield Economics & Finance Institute, the SmartChat Speaker Series is designed to enhance students' education while inspiring them through the stories and experiences of GSSM alumni and leading innovators in the areas of biology, chemistry, computer science, government, economics, history, physics, drama, film and writing.
