Volleyball Opener Rocks Eagles' Nest

August 24, 2018

The Eagles Nest in the Gerlad R. Malloy Student Activity Center rocked Thursday night as the Volleyball team hosted cross-town rivals Emmanuel Christian School to open the 2018-19 season.

With only three practices under their belt, the women got off to a slow start, clawing back from a gaping, early deficit before dropping the first set 18-25. Finding rythm in the second set, the Eagles returned the favor 25-18 to tie up the match. After that, both teams scrapped hard with the Govies showing strength in the serving game and the Crusaders displaying depth and consistency at volley. Fans in the Eagles' Nest bleachers gave the home team the 7th Govie Edge, as they loudly cheered the women on through nail-biting lead changes.  The match went the full 5 sets and the Eagles notched the win 2-3 in a match where both sides showed grit and skill. The team will be on the road Monday to take on the Marion High School Swamp Foxes. Go Eagles!
