The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) recently received a $10,000 investment from Vulcan Materials Company in support of GSSM’s Business Leadership Network (BLN), its GoSciTech residential summer camps, and two satellite summer day camps - CREATEng and iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation held in Greenville County.
Through the BLN, Vulcan’s support impacts residential financial aid and scientific research conducted by GSSM students across the state and beyond during the summer.
The company’s investment also makes possible scholarships and financial aid for rising 8-10th grade students attending GSSM’s flagship residential summer camp, GoSciTech, which is held for four weeks each summer on the School’s Hartsville campus.
Finally, Vulcan’s donation supports GSSM’s STEM-centered satellite day camps for rising 7-9th graders in Greenville County for two weeks during the summer. iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation focuses on science, technology and robotics, while CREATEng is a project-based camp that encourages students to apply principles of engineering to solve challenges.
