Alumni Engineer and Actuarial Leader to Deliver 2026 GSSM Commencement Address

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce that distinguished alumni Charles Tapley “Tap” Gresham and Legaré Gresham will serve as the speakers for the institution’s 37th commencement ceremony, celebrating the Class of 2026.

“Tap and Legare represent over 3,000 GSSM alumni worldwide, said GSSM President Danny Dorsel. “I’m excited for our graduates to hear how GSSM impacted their lives in high school and continues to do so in their careers in Charleston.”

About the Speakers

Charles Tapley “Tap” Gresham (’96)

Born and raised in Georgetown, SC, Gresham graduated from GSSM in 1996. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a registered professional engineer. Gresham began his career as a Nuclear Refueling Engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He later transitioned into modular construction with Jacobs Engineering, where he managed the fabrication and installation of major chemical and refining facilities across the United States and globally. Today, he serves as a Capital Project Manager with Perigon Engineering, managing complex industrial projects for clients throughout the Charleston area.

Legaré Gresham (’96)

Legaré Gresham, also from the class of 1996, brings over two decades of analytical leadership and engineering precision to her professional pursuits. Her professional background includes key roles as a Senior Consulting Actuary at Bartlett Actuarial Group and a Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle Actuarial Resources. Currently, she serves as the Actuarial and Analytics Leader at Energy Insurance Mutual. A lifelong learner, Legaré holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering and French from Vanderbilt University, as well as a Master of Science in Statistics from the University of South Carolina.
