Class of 2021 Graduates from South Carolina Governor’s School for Science + Mathematics

Hartsville, SC  One hundred thirty students graduated from the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science + Mathematics (GSSM) on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the GSSM Campus.

The 130 students who comprise the GSSM Class of 2021 hail from 31 different South Carolina counties and 70 high schools. Graduates will attend a variety of public and private colleges and universities across the country, including Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Colorado School of Mines, DePaul University, Duke Kunshan University, Duke University, George Washington University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Howard University, Lafayette College, New York University, North Carolina State University, Northeastern University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Olin College of Engineering, Oxford College of Emory University, Princeton University, Rhodes College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Sewanee: The University of the South, Tulane University of Louisiana, United States Naval Academy, University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of Florida, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Notre Dame, University of San Francisco, University of Washington (Seattle Campus), Vanderbilt University, Wake Forest University, Washington and Lee University, Wellesley College, Western Carolina University, William and Mary, Williams College and Yale University.

Approximately half of the graduates will remain in state to pursue their undergraduate degrees, enrolling in the following SC institutions: Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Furman University, Presbyterian College, University of South Carolina-Columbia, and Wofford College.

“To graduate from GSSM is no small task.  The Class of 2021 has worked hard to reach this goal.  This class has had to overcome challenges that no other previous class has had to face.  I am proud of them.  As they move on to the next chapter in their lives, what they learned in and out of the classroom at GSSM will pay dividends.  As a GSSM graduate, I welcome them into our esteemed alumni association and look forward to how they will impact the world.”, said interim president Danny Dorsel.
